More Easter Fun

We had a very busy Easter weekend with more social outings than we've had in weeks. It must have worn Jordan out, because she's working on a 3 hour nap right now.... What Jordan will remember most about Easter is you find eggs, and there's junk food inside of them. And if you're sneaky, you can scarf a little of that candy while mom and dad aren't looking. You just act like you're entertaining yourself; Mama and Daddy NEVER disrupt that.

On Friday Jordan's friends Melina and Levi came over for playtime and some egg hunting practice in the backyard. It was the only nice weather day for the weekend. These were empty eggs, but Jo still really got into it, especially when she saw how excited the other kids were about hunting eggs. Kay and I had planned to take the kids to lunch as well. We wanted to go someplace with a playground, and I tried to find a place that wasn't McDonald's, and failed. I really am not a fan of McDonald's, but as with Walmart, my boycotts have been slipping. This was at least a brand new McDonald's, the playground appeared relatively clean, and Jordan had a blast. I do miss the fancy shopping centers in Austin that have several easy food places surrounding a nice outdoor playground. Yet another example of the economic difference between the ATX and the ABQ....

Saturday was our family Easter day. We had to do a little food shopping for the parties we were going to on Sunday, and in route we stumbled upon (thanks to a massive wreck on Lomas and detour) an awesome mom and pop candy shop. It was really cute, everyone working there was a little old lady, and they have a small shop up front and make all the goodies in the factory in the back. It's called Buffet's (related to Warren Buffet), they make all the chocolates and candies themselves, AND they give free samples. Yum. We picked out a few treats, and as the lady was ringing the stuff up, she says, "Um, there are teeth marks in these rabbits...". Those would be from Jordan. We let her hold the chocolate rabbits (bunny heads on lollipop sticks) and she tried to take a bite out of each of them, through the cellophane and all. That's Mama's girl.

On Easter morning we headed over to our friends' place for yet another egg hunt and Easter lunch. They served up a traditional Croatian meal, which I can't spell. They had some friends visiting from out of town, who have two boys, so there was a nice group of kids and everyone got along. Jo liked seeing how excited the other kids were about the eggs. We played until nap time, then headed home to rest up for our evening party next door. Our neighbors hosted a big egg hunt in their backyard and there must have been 50 people there. By this time, I think Jo was getting a little bored with the eggs. She started to discriminate, and would only pick up the green ones for a while. They also had some good egg games, like spoon races, an egg toss (with raw eggs...), and a very personal egg passing contest where you have to pass your egg to your partner under your chin. No one got the hang of that, but I wish I'd had my camera for it. We had a lot of fun, met some new people, and pigged out on great food.

So we're pretty tired today. Jo took a 3 hour nap, and I took a 2 hour one :-) And then I printed out our taxes and started writing checks...
