Jo is Growing Up

Obviously, my children are growing up. That's what they're supposed to do. The alternative is unthinkable. Anyway, Jordan hit a new milestone today: she ate her first booger.

Yep, I'm so proud. If she does this at school, her teacher will faint. She may get kicked out. Ms. Marcela has a visceral reaction to all things snot.

Not to be left out, Jacob had discovered his "treasures" down south.

I love my kids. They are making it so easy for me to scare away future armors...

The Aliens are Coming

Disclaimer: bad parenting follows.

This afternoon I was flipping thru channels while feeding Jacob and landed on the movie Signs. The one about the aliens and the crop circles. It was the scene where the kids and Joaquin Phoenix are watching the news with tin foil wrapped around their heads. Jordan sees the kids and of course wants to watch. I tell her it's scary; she doesn't care. Then she tells me she wants a foil hat. Specifically, she wants a pink foil hat (of course she does (didn't I just blog about this today?)). So I make her a plain one, and then sneak off to find the camera.

Today was a typical spring day in the ABQ: 30+ mph wind. And it makes funny sounds across our flat roof. Not twenty minutes after the movie is over, she comes running into the kitchen looking spooked, with her foil hat back on her head. I ask her what's the matter, and she says the Aliens are Coming! I know she'll probably come wake me up in the middle of the night, and I'll deserve it.

One small step for a princess coup....

One giant leap for potty freedom. I'm convinced that, given another 6 months, my house will a) be completely overrun by all things pink and princess-y, and b) it will be free of training potties (for a few years). Nana bought Jordan a pink princess potty seat that fits on the normal toilet seat. Now Jordan wants to use the big potty. Duh. Why couldn't think of this? And why have I still not bought a second one for the upstairs bathroom? When I do, it will naturally be pink and princess-y. Hey, even princesses have to crap somewhere....

This new stage in potty freedom has prompted some funny observations from Jordan. The other day, she pooped on the big toilet. When she got done, she dismounted and turned around to admire her masterpiece (I can't wait to use this blog to scare off future boyfriends). I go to flush it, and she says "Bye-bye turd!! I'll see you later! Have a good time!" This weekend when she looked, she says "I made a chili pepper! It has a point!", and she ran to tell Daddy.

On the princess front, she's continually requesting new princess items. She's asked for a princess computer. I say I don't even know if they make those (I'm sure they do, but she hasn't seen one, she just knows what toys she wants and throws the "princess" stipulation in front). I tell her she has a lot of new toys and I'm not getting her anything right now. She shrugs and says "Nana will buy it for me."

Nana, Grandma, Katherine...they're all to blame, they all had a part in creating this pink, tu-tu'd, magic wand-brandishing, princess-crazy little girl :-) The poop-admiring is a Jordan original, though.

Hmmm...I'm thinking this year may not be a big blogging year. I see I only wrote two posts last month: pretty lazy. And as far as new recipe posts: forget it. I'm totally burned out on cooking. Tonight I may make Hamburger Helper (gasp!!!)

I still spend quite a bit of time at the computer, but lately it's been to work on pictures. I just finished up a photography class taught by a local guy out of his little backyard studio. It was helpful. And I'm about through my first pass of a Photoshop book, full of great tutorials that I follow along with using my own pictures. If my pictures are looking better, it's due, sadly, to work in front of the computer versus improvement behind the lens. But hopefully that will change soon.

Spring has sprung in the ABQ, which means nice temperatures at the price of 30+ mph wind. This is SUPER for my allergies. Jamie's had a cold for like two weeks. And the kids are a mess, too. I took Jordan in for allergy testing last month due to slight reactions to peanut butter. Sure enough, she has a mild peanut allergy, and a gelatin one, too. But no hay fever (not sure I believe that). And poor baby Jacob's skin is an absolute mess. He's got eczema patches behind both knees (one's really bad), some on his cheeks, a heat rash all over his neck, back, and arms, and some nasty irritated spots on his forehead from his helmet (so now he can't wear that until it heals). And Jacob is so fair and pink compared to the rest of us, I'm afraid to let him see the sun.

So, we'll see how the blog goes. I like writing stuff down, I just have a hard time remembering the stuff I want to write down.
