Every day must end

....and this one can't end soon enough. It was a day for the books. Or the blog, anyway.

- it started after about 4 hours of sleep. We had a horrible wind storm last night (it blew the glass up and out of my patio table!!) and I haven't learned how to sleep through that wind.

- Jacob woke up twice overnight to eat, something he hasn't done in a few weeks.

- Jordan refused to take a nap today. Jacob was still sacked out in his carseat, and I was almost asleep on the couch for a much needed nap when Jordan comes downstairs and declares she's not taking a nap. When I tried to make her, she started bawling and I was happy just to get her to be quiet again.

- Once I had dinner going, I went out to the garage to feed the dogs. Jordan LOCKED ME OUT of the freaking house!! With the stovetop and oven going, and Jamie not due home for 20 minutes, I was about to break a window. She came and unlocked the door, then ran and hid. She got in big big trouble, and then had the nerve to blame in on, get this, Charlie Brown.

Cabin Fever

Let me start by saying I'm most thankful that Jacob does NOT have RSV. We had a scare this week that he may have contracted it, he has a nasty cough, but the results were negative, thank goodness. Having said that, I am TRAPPED in my house until he kicks this cough. No trips to the park, no walking with friends, no visitors, no grocery shopping. Jordan will go to school tomorrow, so drop off and pick up will be my only outings for the rest of the week. My pediatrician said, "Well, this time of year you shouldn't be taking him to public places anyway. Like the grocery store or restaurants." Is he serious??? Does he think I have a live-in nanny? Or a babysitter? Or maybe we don't eat? (that's so obviously not the case) Is there not such a thing as being too careful with an infant during RSV and flu season? Maybe not... I do have a sick kid :-(

Re-learning Winter

When I was a little kid, I was used to winter. Cold air doesn't deter little kids, just ask Jordan. But after 20 years in Texas, where I dreaded summer, I've kind of forgotten. And last year the ABQ had a really warm winter. Not so this year. It snowed before Halloween. It's snowed probably half a dozen times since. Yesterday it snowed, then rained, then hailed. My gas bill was almost $200 this month, a record. And BOTH of my kids are sick. Poor little Jacob has caught Jordan's nasty cough and will be going to the doctor tomorrow, and otherwise will not allowed to leave the house due to his overprotective Mom. I'm ready for a warm spell, and will likely need to wait until May. Jamie is just itching to go skiing, he mentions it every time he looks at the mountain. I can't fit back into my ski pants yet (fyi: ski pants DO NOT stretch), so it doesn't matter to me. So I wonder , will I finally start to enjoy summer weather again?? Today, that would be a YES!!

Silly Kids

Jordan decided she's going to be shy. The other day I took her to the park and there was a little girl there, about her age, with her Mom and brothers. Jordan wanted to play, but kept circling around. Then she made me get on the jungle gym and play, too, while she kept eying this little girl. She looks at me and says, "Mama, there's a little girl." Yes.... "Mama, will you go tell her Hi?" What? So I did, and then they started playing together and I could return to my post by Jacob's stroller. I thought it was so funny that Jordan, of all kids, needed me to break the ice for her.

Jacob has decided he's no longer a chicken (I call him that because he "bocks") but a turkey. When I talk, he talks. Just like turkeys do. He's getting to be about the size of a turkey, too. Hopefully he won't grow a waddle.

2010 Resolutions

Here are my 2010 Resolutions. Some years I make them, some I don't. Some years I keep them, most I don't :-)

- Stop yelling at Jordan so much. She's just at that age, but I am not, so I need to have more patience and turn down the volume.

- Clean up my breakfast act. The coffee STAYS, but no more junk in the morning. I got into some bad habits since over the holidays. Goal is 6 days a week to eat good in the morning: whole grains, low sugar.

- There was a third one, and look, I've already forgotten it. That one had no chance of making it past January anyway....
